Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour

2006 is the 35th Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour. This year's tour offers 12 homes in Historic Oakwood on December 9 & 10 from 1pm to 7pm. Prices are $15 per person in advance or $20.00 the day of the Tour.

The tour is the major event that the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood has to raise money for the use in the Historic District. The money is used for various improvements of the neighborhood. Every year the tour is on the second weekend of December. All of the homes on tour are decorated for Christmas in their own unique fashion.

Advance ticket sales are throughout Raleigh. You can also go online and purchase them for a $2.00 fee per ticket at E-tix (http://www.etix.com/). This is our first year using E-tix for make purchases for advance sales. When you purchase them via E-tix, you receive a voucher for tickets. To pick up your tickets, take the voucher to The Oakwood Inn Bed & Breakfast on the day of tour and just exchange them for your tickets.

The tickets are more like a brochure, which has a map and location of all the homes and areas of interest on it. This year, we have also purchased the services of Molly the Trolley which is a trolley that will take you on a mobile tour of the area dropping you off at various locations throughout Historic Oakwood. The Tucker House will be open for cookies and refreshments. The Historic Oakwood Cemetery will also be open for tours.

For more information or advance ticket sales, call The Oakwood Inn B & B at 919-832-9712 located at 411 North Bloodworth, Raleigh, NC 27604.

This year (due to previous year's demand) The Oakwood Inn will be opening its upstairs rooms for touring. In previous years it has always been the two downstairs rooms, BUT this year we are opening the upstairs.. something different! We are not sure the upstairs has EVER been open in previous years and if it has been.... it's been at least eight years!

Come and Join us for Fun, Food, and Pleasure! Call for information at 919-832-9712 or go to http://www.historicoakwood.org/, or http://www.oakwoodinnbb.com/.

Dinner/Theatre Packages

Doris and I of The Oakwood Inn Bed & Breakfast have always been a supporter of the Arts. We especially enjoy live theatre, so about four years ago we started offering Dinner/Theatre Packages at the Inn. I call it a Three Act Show.... stay a night at The Oakwood Inn, go out for dinner at a local restaraunt, and then out to see a play at one of Raleigh's downtown theatre groups.

Raleigh has some wonderful talent and the shows that are offered each year cover the full spectrum of theatre. Just go to the Oakwood Inn website at www.oakwoodinnbb.com and check out the link with Dinner/Theatre. It has a list of the entire season for all of the shows at the eight theatre groups we work with. There is nothing better than Live Theatre for entertainment.

And food wise.... Raleigh has some great restaraunts. We work with about six to eight different downtown restaraunts for the dinners.

If you are interested in a package, just pick a show you'd like to see, call us for a room and we will tell you about the restaraunts you can choose. We can usually give you a price within 48 hours. It is a good idea to call as far in advance of the date as possible so we can get you the best seats.

We have had quite a few guests that have purchased 2 or 3 packages over the past few years and they all seem very satisfied. If you have used one of our Dinner/Theatre packages, please feel free to post a comment about it. We would love to hear from you.

These Dinner/Theatre packages also make for a great Christmas gift for the couple that has everything... keep that in mind for this year's holiday season!
